David Horwitz, MA, CVA is a certified volunteer administrator and seasoned communications professional known for his strategic approach to amplifying volunteerism and service. Horwitz currently manages volunteer engagement at AARP Foundation, leading initiatives and fostering partnerships to increase volunteer recruitment, satisfaction, and retention. In 2023, he took the lead in securing a 3-year, $3.45 million AmeriCorps Volunteer Generation Fund grant to mobilize older volunteers nationwide. Horwitz also played a pivotal role in establishing AARP Foundation as a certifying organization of the President’s Volunteer Service Awards, and collaborates with national partners like AmeriCorps, Points of Light, Independent Sector, and others to champion volunteers and volunteerism professionals.
Prior to his role at AARP Foundation, Horwitz led community outreach programs for the world’s largest scientific society, galvanizing tens of thousands of volunteers to reach over 50 million people annually with positive messages about science. Outside of work, David serves as a board member for the Association of Leaders in Volunteer Engagement (AL!VE), as a mayor-appointed commissioner on the DC Commission on National and Community Service (Serve DC), and as an adjunct faculty member teaching graduate seminars in marketing research at Johns Hopkins University.
Horwitz holds a BA in Communications from the University of California, Davis, and an MA in Communications from California State University, Fresno.
