Michael Riou

Michael Riou is currently the Resource Development Manager for Volunteering Western Australia (WA), the peak volunteer organisation in WA (http://www.volunteeringwa.org.au/). He has over 17 years experience in the community services sector including positions in the WA State Government.

Michael has competencies in governance, risk management and corporate social responsibility frameworks in the not-for-profit, government and corporate sectors. He is also a volunteer treasurer/board member for the Western Institute of Self Help (http://www.wish.org.au/), a peak not-for-profit organisation in WA.

Michael completed a Bachelor of Social Work from Curtin University in WA and recently completed a Master of Business Administration. He is a qualified trainer and assessor, delivering Certificate IV training in volunteer management.

Michael is originally from Canada. He arrived in Australia in 1981 embarking on coaching and playing positions for state baseball in New South Wales, Victoria and Western Australia. His greatest challenge is balancing family, work, recreation and volunteer commitments with his wife and four very, very active young children.
