Perspectives and Possibilities: Exploring the Potential of Research to Practice

Research

If you’re a reader of this section, you know that Research to Practice typically highlights research published in academic journals and shares key findings and implications for Volunteer Engagement leaders. However, in addition to sharing relevant research published in other outlets, this section also has two other goals: to publish original research and to involve subscribers and other volunteerism professionals in research.

To bring these two goals to the forefront of future Engage issues, this Research to Practice presents an overview of the various formats that the section might take, including publishing original research and sharing tips and best practices for conducting research-related activities in organizational settings. In addition, Allison Russell, our co-section editor, wants to hear from our readers and get your input on what you’d like to see in Research to Practice going forward. You will find a link to share your feedback at the end of the article. Thanks in advance for sharing your perspectives!

Hi! As a consultant in the volunteer engagement field, but having no academic background, I've often wanted to look into certain aspects of the sector, but I don't have a clue where to start. How do you set up a study? Do you need a ton of money and time to do it? How do you make sure bias doesn't creep in? I'd love to learn more about taking the first steps toward doing research. Thanks!!
